History
Brouwer Groothandelsgroep has a history that goes back almost a century. In 1923, Albert Brouwer started a catering firm on an island in the Zuiderzee called Urk. The local bottler of days gone by has now grown into a wholesaler with a passion for food, in the broadest sense of the word. Brouwer Groothandelsgroep is an international company, but remains a family firm in heart and soul. The fourth generation of ‘Brouwers’ currently stands at the helm of this group, comprising five companies: Asia Express Food, Visscher Seafood, Fisherman’s Choice, Schiava and Horecagroothandel Brouwer.
In 2016, the comprehensive history of this family firm was chronicled in a unique book: ‘Van Wabu tot Brouwergroep’, 110 years of history from an Urker family business. This special publication is full of personal stories about acting with passion, embracing opportunity, working hard and getting involved. The book doesn't just relate a commercial narrative, but also gives the reader a bird's eye view of the history of Urk prior to the Second World War.
